Playa Maroma sits on one of the calmest, clearest stretches of the Riviera Maya, which makes it an easy launch point for a day on the water. The Viking and Bertram sportfishers here run morning and afternoon departures for one to ten guests, trolling the deep blue just beyond the reef for marlin, sailfish, dorado and tuna. If the group is mixed, the same boats double as sightseeing and snorkel cruisers, drifting over the reef and slipping into quiet inlets along the coast. Charters run four, six or eight hours with drinks aboard, and a short transfer brings you from your Playa del Carmen hotel to the marina.
